Lao
Lao was designed with the intention of challenging the perception
of how we expect objects to look and behave. In light fixtures, the most
fragile element is the lightbulb and because of such it tends to be
elevated and “protected”.
I decided to change that by placing the visually “fragile” 3D printed sphere-like shape as the structural support for the wooden form. This design is meant to have the presence of a sculpture when not lit as well as being portable to serve as a flashlight. This drove the design to be wireless; the light is powered by a battery-operated LED bulb.
